Hired by the local LGBTQ Center to investigate the shooting of valedictorian Francine Harrington, Pax expects to find a lone gunman with a manifesto. Instead, she uncovers a web of deception stretching from Providence to Boston’s criminal underworld; one that entangles a desperate mother, a manipulative businessman, and an organization powerful enough to make people disappear.

As Pax digs deeper, the victim’s seemingly perfect family fractures, revealing lies built on top of lies. When a second attempt on Francine’s life nearly succeeds, Pax realizes she’s not hunting a random bigot. She’s caught in the crossfire of a decades-old conspiracy where the greatest danger comes from those claiming to offer protection.

With her former high school sweetheart, Chiara Ciccone – now a Boston crime boss trying to go legitimate – providing unexpected assistance, Pax must navigate treacherous waters where allies can’t be trusted, and enemies hide behind respectable facades. When criminal organizations operate in plain sight and federal agents play both sides, the only question that matters is: who wanted Francine Harrington dead badly enough to try twice?
